TCP/IP & IP Addressing

  • TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol / Internet Protocol.
  • There are two versions of TCP/IP called IPv4 and IPv6.
  • IPv4 is the 32 bit version [ IP address is assigned in decimal format] and IPv6 is the 128 bit version of TCP/IP and IP addresses are assigned using Hexadecimal format.
  • It is a suite of communication protocols used to connect devices on the Internet and other networks.
  • Protocols are languages of the computers.
  • It defines how data is going to be packaged, addressed, transmitted, routed, and received.
  • TCP/IP is supported by almost all the operating systems we use in the small to corporate networks.Ex. Windows, Linux, Ubuntu, Android, Unix, Apple IoS etc.
  • TCP/IP is a routable and most addressable protocol.
