Creating a Bootable Pendrive for CentOS Linux [Using Rufus]
Rufus is a lightweight and powerful tool for making bootable USB drives. Here's how to use it to create a CentOS installer:
1. Download required files
- Rufus: Get the latest version from the official Rufus website
- CentOS-8 ISO: Download your required CentOS version from CentOS Downloads
2. Plug in your USB Drive
- Use a USB drive with at least 64GB capacity
3. Launch Rufus
- No installation needed—just run the .exe file
- Rufus will auto-detect your USB drive
4. Select ISO file
- Click the “Select” button next to Boot selection
- Choose your downloaded CentOS ISO
5. Configure Settings
- Partition scheme: Choose MBR for BIOS or GPT for UEFI systems (LATEST ONE)
- File system: Leave as FAT32 or NTFS (Rufus will auto-select)
- Volume label: Optional—name your USB drive Like CentOS-8
6. Start the process
- Click “Start”
Rufus may ask how to write the image:
- Choose ISO Image mode (Always recommended)
- If boot issues occur, retry with DD Image mode
7. Completion of the setup
- Wait for Rufus to finish (usually 5–10 minutes)
- Safely eject the USB drive
