Creating a Bootable Pendrive for CentOS Linux [Using Rufus]

Rufus is a lightweight and powerful tool for making bootable USB drives. Here's how to use it to create a CentOS installer:

1. Download required files

  • Rufus: Get the latest version from the official Rufus website
  • CentOS-8 ISO: Download your required CentOS version from CentOS Downloads

2. Plug in your USB Drive

  • Use a USB drive with at least 64GB capacity

3. Launch Rufus

  • No installation needed—just run the .exe file
  • Rufus will auto-detect your USB drive

4. Select ISO file

  • Click the “Select” button next to Boot selection
  • Choose your downloaded CentOS ISO

5. Configure Settings

  • Partition scheme: Choose MBR for BIOS or GPT for UEFI systems (LATEST ONE)
  • File system: Leave as FAT32 or NTFS (Rufus will auto-select)
  • Volume label: Optional—name your USB drive Like CentOS-8

6. Start the process

  • Click “Start”
    • Rufus may ask how to write the image:
    • Choose ISO Image mode (Always recommended)
    • If boot issues occur, retry with DD Image mode

7. Completion of the setup

  • Wait for Rufus to finish (usually 5–10 minutes)
  • Safely eject the USB drive
