Installing Windows 7 Pro on the PC
Although Windows 7 is no longer officially supported by Microsoft, you can still install it for legacy systems or specific use cases. Here are steps to do a Clean installation on your PC.
Installation Requirements
- Windows 7 Pro ISO or DVD
- Product key for activation
- USB drive at least 16GB
- Rufus - To create a bootable installer
Create Bootable Media (USB Method)
- Download the Windows 7 ISO
- Use Rufus to create a bootable USB:
- Select ISO file
- Choose MBR for BIOS or GPT for UEFI
- Click Start
Boot from USB
- Insert USB or DVD
- Restart PC and enter BIOS/UEFI (usually F2, F12, DEL, or ESC)
- Set USB/DVD as first boot device
- Save and exit
Start Installation
- Press any key when prompted to boot from media
- Choose language, time, and keyboard settings
- Click Install Now
Accept License Terms
- Check the box to accept Microsoft’s license agreement
- Click Next
Choose Installation Type
- Select Custom (Advanced) for a clean install
Select Partition
- Choose the drive to install Windows
- Use Drive options (advanced) to:
- Format or delete partitions
- Create a new partition if needed
- Click Next
Let Windows Install
- Setup will copy files and install features
- PC may restart several times — don’t interrupt
Configure Windows
- Enter username and computer name
- Set a password (optional)
- Enter product key (or skip to activate later)
Finalize the Settings
- Choose update settings (recommended: automatic)
- Set time zone and date
- Select network type (Home, Work, or Public)
