Network Topologies

Star / Hub and Spoke Topology :

• In this topology devices are connected to a central hub/switch.
• Most common today; easy to troubleshoot, but hub failure affects all.
• Also called as Switched Ethernet where the switch is in the central position.
• Star topology we are using UTP or STP Cables with RJ-45 Connectors.
• Network Speed earlier was 10Mbps, but now we have by default 1Gbps Ethernet Lan card in Desktop/Laptop and Server computers.
• It is low cost topology for implementation and cost of cable and devices.
• Easy to upgrade and troubleshoot problems.
